More information

Applications for the 2018 programme are now closed. We’ll be announcing the shortlist week commencing 7 May 2018.

We’re looking for strong teams and adaptable technology which could be easily integrated into Bupa’s business to improve the lives of our customers.

This year, the focus is aged care. Your product, service or concept must help us solve one of the following challenges in aged care:

  • How might we exploit new technologies and innovative solutions to support and enable the ageing population to live independently for longer and to allow family members to help?
  • How might we use innovative solutions to help support Bupa’s professional carers as they go about their working day?

For us, strong applications will clearly showcase:

  • The idea, product or technology: what it is, how it works, why it is significant, its market opportunity, how it would be marketed and who its competitors are.
  • The founder(s): who conceived the ideas, what are your motivations, what are your backgrounds and interests.
  • The team: tell us about the team, who they are, what are their roles and responsibilities.
  • The business: provide us with financial information about your business – this can be historic or forecasted.
  • Why you want to work with Bupa: why Bupa, how do you envisage working with Bupa?

We strongly encourage you to upload a demo video to help us give more context to your product and team (please ensure it is no longer than three minutes).

We will assess your application using the following broad criteria:

  • Relevance to the Bupa B Table programme challenges.
  • Potential impact of the product/solution on our customers and/or employees.
  • Uniqueness of the product/solution (competitive advantage).
  • Strength and commitment of the participant’s team.
  • Robustness/strength of the participant’s company.
  • Potential impact on Bupa’s business.
  • Feasibility and scalability of the product/solution within Bupa’s business.

The programme

Successful finalists will be invited to join our programme, which will run in two phases.

The first phase will run for up to 10 weeks. The aim of the first phase is for startups to demonstrate a proof of concept (POC) of their solution, by working hand-in-hand with one of our aged care business units in Australia, New Zealand, UK or Spain.

Successful POCs will move into the second phase of the programme, where up to £25,000 may be available for startups to implement a minimum viable product (MVP) with one or more of our business units, in a time-frame of 90 days.

Throughout the programme, participants will receive mentoring from Bupa leaders, advice from our experts and business partners, and have access to office space to co-develop their ideas. Companies will be required to relocate to the relevant Bupa’s offices during part of the programme. This will be discussed and agreed with participants during the half day in-depth discussions selection process.

Participants will be required to attend a series of hosted events, pitches and workshops during the programme aimed to present progress to Bupa. Towards the end of the programme, a Demo Day event may be held where companies will showcase their products and journey to an audience of Bupa business leaders, potential investors, and influencers invited by Bupa. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with Bupa business executives and other event invitees.

At the end of the programme, startups will review learnings and agree next steps with our businesses.
